Olex's New Plymouth manufacturing plant began in 1967 as a joint venture between Tolley and Sons and Canada Wire and Cable of Toronto. Olex manufactures a wide range of copper and aluminium electric power cables, ranging from building wires and control cables to power cables with rated values up to 35kV and has also responded to customer requests by carrying a wider range of top quality branded products including Olex Pyrolex (fire rated), Olex Dekoron® (instrumentation), Olex Flexolex® (flexible cable), Olex Varolex® (Variable Speed Drive Cable) and Olex Versolex® (flexible). Through its close association with Olex Australia, Olex New Zealand Limited is able to supply cable up to 275kV and was recently involved in the supply of 110kV cable for the Mercury Tunnel Project. Olex is at the leading edge of changing technology, and it is the use of this technology that has led to its Medium Voltage line being classified as worlds best practice. All medium voltage cables are manufactured using a high-technology, dry cure, triple extrusion process, (using TR-XLPE insulation) with continuous monitoring incorporating X-ray technology to ensure a consistently high quality product that meets specification requirements.
