London U.K. - Base metals rise on China manufacturing |
| Base metals rose early Wednesday, powered by Chinese manufacturing data. However, focus remains on weakness in the U.S. economic data which could cap the gains for the metals complex. Major economic data for Wednesday include the ISM Manufacturing index for August which is forecast to drop to 52.8 from 55.5 in July, while the August reading for ISM prices paid is estimated at 55.3 from 57.5 in the prior month. Construction spending on a month-on-month basis for July is likely to come in at negative 0.5% after gaining 0.1% in June. |

Geneva Switzerland - Trade value still up by about 25% in the first half of 2010 |
| The value of world merchandise trade rose around 25% in the first six months of 2010 up strongly from the same period of 2009. This surge in trade growth marks a continuation of the trend begun in the first quarter of the year, according to WTO figures released on 1 September 2010.World merchandise exports increased by about 7% in the second quarter of 2010, in comparison with the first quarter (ˇ°quarter on quarterˇ±) Within that period, available monthly statistics for about 70 economies representing about 90% of world trade show that merchandise trade declined in April and May 2010, then rose again in June. |

Mumbai India - Bajaj Electricals bags Rs.408 Cr. transmission line, electrification order |
| Bajaj Electricals Ltd. said it had bagged orders for Rs.408 crore for construction of 312 Kms of 400kV double-circuit transmission lines, village electrification, under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidhyutikaran Yojana or RGGVY and high mast and street lightening segments. With these new orders, the order book of the company as on date crosses Rs..1,150 crore. Bajaj Electricals Limited (BEL), a 72 year old trusted company with a turnover of over Rs. 2252 crores, is a part of the US $ 6 billion (Rs 29,000 crores) "Bajaj Group". Washington D.C. - New law would put teeth into tariff on wire hangers |
| A new federal law would give the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection more tools to crack down on schemes to evade tariffs on wire hangers and other imported steel products. The legislation, called the Enforcing Orders and Reducing Circumvention and Evasion (ENFORCE) Act of 2010, was introduced last month by Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and is supported by the Coalition for Enforcement of Antidumping and Countervailing Duty Orders, a group that includes the hanger manufacturer M&B Metal Products along with other U.S. manufacturers of steel products. |

Columbus Ohio - Incentives lure steel business to Columbus and creates 120 jobs |
| An Arizona-based wire-mesh and steel company plans to establish a plant in Columbus that will employ 120, and it received a state tax credit yesterday to aid in the process. International Technical Coatings of Phoenix plans to establish a 667,000-square-foot plant in Columbus to house the company's Eastern steel-wire drawings and manufacturing operations. The location has not been announced. The project is valued at nearly $15million The tax credit, worth about $270,000, would last seven years and require the company to maintain operations at the site for 10 years. According to the Ohio Department of Development, the tax credit helped the company choose Columbus over locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Pennsylvania. |
